About Me

What is there to say about me? I am a small town boy living in the suburbs of New York City. I wish I had written a book or even a journal about all the shit I experienced during my first few years here in New York. Even after 12 years, there is a lot of comedy to be had adjusting to the subtle nuance of New York life (that is sarcasm if you were wondering).

I have always wanted to do comedy, since being hooked on "An Evening at the Improv" when it first came on cable. Yes, we had cable in Jasper, FL. Somehow a friend of mine and I came across some Richard Pryor tapes, and we would listen to them and just laugh like we understood what the hell he was talking about. He said fuck a lot, and I guess that was good enough for us. Comedy was booming back then. There was Bill Cosby - Himself, Eddie Murphy - Delirious and Raw, and Carlin at Carnegie. When I listen to comedy of that era now, I don't really understand what was so funny about it, but comedy changes with time. Those guys were the brilliant minds and performers that planted the seed of comedy in my mind all those years ago. Somehow it stuck. Unlike times tables which did not stick and I got whacked with a ruler because of it!

Even though "the bug" bit me many years ago, I never acted on it until recently. I saw a link on Governor's web site that just said "Comedy College". I immediately called to find out what it was all about. I didn't see any reason not to sign up, so I did.

The classes were led by comedy veteran and wise cracking smart ass, Carie Karavas. We endured 8 weeks of humiliation and punishment from Carie. It was almost like boot camp!! We finally made it to our graduation show on November 8th, 2006. We were all nervous that we would bomb, and some of us did, but when I walked out on that stage, it was like nothing I had ever experienced. When I walked off stage that night, the only thing that kept me from passing out from nervous energy and anxiety in the green room was Chris Roach. He was getting ready to head out on stage to close the show. When I walked off he just gave me the "fist" and said "that's the way you do it, man". Thanks Chris keeping me off of that floor... ew...

When I signed up for the class my expectation was that I would take it, do my graduation show, and then never set foot on stage again. That is not what happened. After the first class, I decided to re-up. Two more times in fact. Now I have done a handful of shows, with all kinds of audiences and results, and there are no signs that I'll be stopping any time soon. So come on out and see me make an ass of myself laugh at me, or with me. I really don't give a shit as long as you laugh.
